ONN Universal Remote Codes List & How To Program!

Universal remote controls come in handy when you either lost your original remote or couldn’t find the original replacement for your TV.

With the latest ONN universal remote, you can control up to 6 devices, including TVs, DVD players, streaming devices, cable boxes, and many more.

Universal remotes are becoming more popular due to their feasibility to control a number of devices with a single remote.

In this article, we will explore how you can program an ONN universal remote for any TV available on the market and the codes you’ll need to set up your ONN universal Remote with your TV.

Setting up for Remote Programming

Setting up for Remote Programming

Before you start the programming process with your ONN remote, ensure you have the following at hand:

  • The ONN universal remote control device.
  • The manual for the remote (or access to it online)
  • A comprehensive list of codes for your specific device, including different brands.

Remember to identify your ONN remote model, which is usually located at the back of the device or in the user’s manual.

If you already have a remote for your ONN TV that has stopped working, read our troubleshooting guide on ONN TV Remote Not Working and how you can fix that.

How Do I Program My ONN Universal Remote To My TV?

How to Program My ONN Universal Remote To My TV

You can’t use a universal remote unless you pair it with your television or other devices you want to use it for.

There are two different ways to pair your ONN universal remote:

  1. Auto Code Search Method (Without code)
  2. Direct Code Entry (Using a code)

Method 1: Use Auto Code Search Method To Program ONN Universal Remote (Without Code)

The first method to program your ONN universal remote is by letting your remote automatically detect your TV. Also known as Auto code entry method.

This method is useful when you cannot find the device code or don’t want to search for it.

Here’s how you can program ONN remotes by using the Auto Code Search method:

  • Power on Your TV using the TV’s Power button.
  • Press and hold the power button on the ONN universal remote until you see a red light on the Power button.
  • Now, press the TV button on the remote. Press the Stream button if you are programming remote for streaming devices such as Amazon Fire TV Stick, Roku or Apple TV.
  • The power button will blink red once, and then the light will stay.
  • Press and hold the OK button on your ONN universal remote while pointing it to your TV. The remote will start testing codes automatically.
  • The TV will turn off once the ONN remote gets a valid code. Have patience, as this step can take as long as 10 minutes.
  • Release the OK button once the TV is turned off. This will lock the code, and your ONN remote will be paired with your TV. Also, the red light on the power button will turn off.
  • Now, test your remote. Press the power button and check if your TV powers ON. Also, test all other buttons.
  • Repeat the process if all the buttons are not working with your TV.

If you have tried multiple times, and the buttons on your ONN universal remote are still not working, use the direct code entry method provided below.

Method 2: Program ONN Universal Remote Using a Code (Direct Code Entry)

According to me, you should use the direct code entry method when you have the code for your TV or have the manual handy with you. I have also provided the code list for some of the popular TV brands below.

Here’s how you can program your ONN universal remote using a code.

  • Turn on your TV.
  • Find the code in the manual, or search for your TV code here.
  • Press and hold the Program button until you see the red light on the power button.
  • Press the power button, and the red light on the button will blink once and then stay on.
  • Enter the 4-digit code using your ONN universal remote. Make sure to enter it within 35 seconds, or else you must start over.
  • The red light on the power button turns off when you enter a valid code. In case you entered an invalid code, the red light on the power button will start flashing.
  • If your TV has not turned off automatically, enter the next 4-digit code and see if that works.
  • Keep entering the code until you get a valid code.

Method 3: Troubleshoot The Remote

Troubleshoot The Remote

Troubleshooting your ONN remote becomes important when none of the above methods works correctly for your TV.

Here are a few things you can do to fix the issue.

  • If you use the manual method (direct code entry), try using auto code search. I have found that sometimes the listed code on the manual won’t provide full functionality, whereas auto code search finds the best suitable code for the TV.
  • Don’t settle for a code that only gives you basic control over your device. If the current code you are using limits or hinders you from adjusting the volume or using the fast-forward and rewind features, look for another code or try an automatic code search.
  • Check and remove the obstruction between your TV and remote. If you’re experiencing difficulty during the programming process, it might be because a bulky piece of furniture or another large object is causing interference.
  • Replace the batteries on your ONN remote control. If your remote control battery runs low on energy, it won’t function properly. A quick battery swap could bring back its zest! But if new batteries don’t seem to do the trick, your remote may be damaged. So, you have two choices – get your remote repaired or buy a brand new remote.
